Chase Koch sat down with CNBC hosts to explain how the book's 41 principles — and a new AI companion tool — can help anyone lead, grow and navigate uncertainty.
CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin and Becky Quick of Squawk Box spoke with Chase Koch, Koch’s executive vice president of originations and partnerships, to discuss “Becoming a Principle-Driven Leader,” a new book that he co-wrote with his father, Koch Chairman and co-CEO Charles Koch.
Chase told the hosts he learned more in the last 18 months of writing the book with his father than he’d learned in the previous 18 years. That’s largely because his father applies the very Principles of Human Progress written about in the book to every process in his life.
The book is meant to be a practical guide to help anyone learn how to apply 41 principles to lead, grow and empower others to create meaningful change in their work, lives and society. It often uses personal experiences from Charles, Chase and others to illustrate the power of learning from our failures and using principles to help make decisions in challenging and uncertain times.
“We are living in a time of unprecedented uncertainty, disruption in our lives, economic uncertainty,” Chase told Squawk Box. “And so, I feel like we kind of got lucky in terms of the timing of this coming out, because we think it can help, everyone in any type of job, whether it's nonprofit, a sports teams, or in someone’s personal life.”
Platform of Principles
Chase also shared with the hosts that the idea of teaching people about principles goes beyond just the book. It’s why they’ve included QR codes throughout the book that take readers to videos of Koch leaders describing problems and opportunities they’ve encountered and how they used principles inside the book to transform, learn and grow.
The team has also created Principle Companion, an AI learning tool, that helps people individualize their learning experience even further. The tool is designed to meet you where you are and acts like a personal coach, offering individualized guidance and encouraging you to apply principles to develop solutions. A mobile app version of Principle Companion can also be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
