Koch and Jones Day provided legal support to survivors across three cities.
This fall, Koch partnered with Jones Day to host three Start Anew clinics that connected survivors of human trafficking with free legal services and resources. Start Anew provides survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence and sexual abuse with the opportunity to move forward and begin again.
Held in Minneapolis, Chicago and Atlanta, these clinics extended the Koch Pro Bono Initiative’s support for survivors in several major communities. The first two clinics took place on Sept. 18 in Minneapolis and Chicago. The Minneapolis clinic served 21 survivors and was supported by in-kind contributions from across Koch companies:
- Infor fulfilled the clinic’s Amazon Wish List and donated 500 portable power banks/USB-C chargers
- Flint Hills Resources provided attendees with $25 gas cards
- Phillips Medisize donated cinch bags, water bottles and travel first-aid kits
In Chicago, 42 survivors attended the Start Anew clinic. Follow-up interviews were arranged with several attendees, and others received legal assistance related to expungement. Employees at Koch company Molex in Lisle, Illinois, also donated roughly 10 boxes of professional clothing, accessories and personal care items.
The series culminated on Oct. 6 with the Start Anew clinic in Atlanta (the first in the city). More than 30 survivors attended this event, with support from more than 20 partner organizations. Koch company Georgia-Pacific contributed products for Hope Bags distributed to event attendees.
Through its partnership with Jones Day, the Koch Pro Bono Initiative continues to connect survivors with legal services, resources and community support as they move forward with their lives.
