Some people follow the beaten path; others carve their own. At Koch, individuals are encouraged to transform their careers by leaning into their unique abilities.

These are the stories of local Koch employees who see their careers as a journey, not a destination. Where someone starts does not determine where they end up — the opportunities are unlimited.

Laurel Anderson

Even before joining Koch, Laurel was an eager volunteer in and around Wichita. After nine years in technical roles, she discovered an opportunity with Koch Public Affairs that aligned with her passion for helping people in the community.

"When the role opened up, I thought, 'That is my dream job,'" she said.

Since 2019, Laurel has championed new ways for Koch to support employee engagement with local partners and organizations in our community that empower people.

Laurel leads Koch's community and employee engagement, connecting volunteers with meaningful causes, such as Pando Initiative, Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Simply Hygiene and employee events on campus.

Cody McHone

Cody didn't start his career with a master plan. He knew he was good with people and was initially drawn to law enforcement. After working at the Kansas Department of Corrections, he realized it was not what he wanted long-term. A mentor recommended human resources. At the time, Cody laughed it off.

A few years after joining Koch as a security officer, Cody was pursuing an HR role. He wanted to stay at Koch and eventually landed a recruiting position at Koch Ag & Energy Solutions. Using his natural gifts and talents along with the support of his supervisors, Cody continued to advance into broader HR leadership roles.

Today, Cody leads the LIFT team, which provides global real estate solutions and advisory and facilities management services for Koch businesses.
